The first Opera Festival in the Arab world, including over 10 different Nationalities

Zeina Barhoum will be playing the role of Violetta, the Opera la traviata’s lead, along side Andres Veramendi as Alfredo, Simon Svitok as Germont and Jordanian Tenor Ady Naber as Gastone. They will be accompanied by the Sichuan Philharmonic Orchestra featuring musicians from the well renowned Opera House, La Scala, as well as musicians from Jordan and a choir from The Batumi Opera House in Georgia lead by conductor Lorenzo Tazzieri.

The production in Jordan will be the first of its kind in the Arab World in a Roman open air theater on that scale and will be under The Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein.

La Traviata in Amman will be on the 19th and the 22nd of July 2017 starting at 8 : 00 PM. Doors open at 6 : 00 PM.

Zeina Barhoum

The Arabic Soprano

Zeina Barhoum, who started her musical path in 1997, is a classically trained Soprano. She received an award of best soloist in the Eisteddfod competition at a young age. Has a Bsc in Visual Communication from American University of Sharjah.

Barhoum has had private vocal coaching with Alberta Valentini, Walter Alberti and Tina Ruta, whom have now all become mentors. Her Operatic repertoire includes music from La traviata, Gianni schicchi, La boheme, Rigoletto, Il barbiere di siviglia, L’elisir d’amore and many more. She has had performances in Jordan, UAE, London, Italy, Austria, France and Lebanon including the reputable Jerash and Beiteddine festivals, with renowned artists, including Italian Baritone and tutor Walter Alberti and Roberto Alagna. She took part in the International Peace Festival Tour with the Prague Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Riad Al Kudsi. With Orion Orchestra at Cadogan Hall conducted by Toby Purser, in a project with Opera singers from Europe and the Middle-East and at Teatro Ventidio Basso in Ascoli Italy.In June 2014, Barhoum performed in the opening night of Jerash Festival accompanied by the Amman Conservatory Orchestra under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdallah the Second. In September 2014, she performed in the Arabian Interlude, a show organised by the Peace and Prosperity Trust of which she is a member of, at The Kensington Palace under the patronage of The Duke of Gloucester. Combining classical opera and Arabic music of what is known as Barhoum’s signature.

In a fundraising concert shortly after, with the Arab Alliance for women in music, Barhoum performed from La traviata and La boheme along side award winning musicians from Sweden as well as the Georgian composer Agnes Bashir, where she sang her original compositions as part of the composer’s Arabic Opera project.

Under the patronage of Her Highness Princess Wijdan Hashemi and in partnership with the Italian Embassy in Jordan, Barhoum launched her first album, Alcantara, November 2014 accompanied by Amman Conservatory Orchestra and her guest singers on the album, Baritone Simone Scatarzi and Tenor Romolo Tisano. Which was then followed in 2015 by a concert accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Naples directed by Michealangelo Galeati in Dubai and a concert in Paris in Honor of Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO and recently organised by the Italian foundation CRE in Rome Under the patronage of Her Highness Princess Wijdan Hashemi with the "Alcantara" Ensemble and director Massimiliano Tisano featuring the album in Campidoglio, Rome-Italy. In January 2016, she was invited for the highlight performance at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna at the WU Ball of the Vienna University of Economics and Business with the C.M. Ziehrer Hofballorchestra conducted by Prof. Hans Schadenbauer. On the second of February 2016, Barhoum was hosted for a concert at the UNESCO theatre in Paris, France organised by the Jordanian Embassy in France and In Honour of Dr. Irina

Bokova in celebration of the listing of the Baptism Site in Jordan as part of the World Heritage. In April 2016, Barhoum was invited to perform once again at Kensington Palace in celebration of Women achievers and bridging cultures through AIWF, and then had her Pilton Debut not too far from London.

Opera At The Roman Downtown which took place in May 2016, was under the Patronage of Princess Muna Al-Hussein, an initiative carried out by Barhoum introducing Opera to Jordan, mainly by Italian composers, with renowned guest singers from Italy, conductor Lorenzo Tazzieri conducting Jorchestra and SHJ Choir from Jordan and a Guest Conductor based in Jordan, Wen Yu Ho. Barhoum’s aim is to keep bringing Opera to Jordan and the Arab world to continue bridging cultutres and growing appreciation for this genre of music. Alcantara II was recently recorded live and launched in a concert accompanied by The Philharmonic Orchestra of Lviv and Choir lead by Conductor Lorenzo Tazzieri.

Barhoum’s talent is innovative and creative, embracing the rich aspects of Classical Opera, Arabic classical songs and western classics. Her current successful signature is on the operatic, formative Arabic – Western crossover music scene.
